Would you like to become a Volunteer Firefighter?
Volunteering
as a Firefighter or EMT can be the most rewarding, and enjoyable
thing you can do. As those of us who volunteer can tell you, being a
member has changed our lives, and allows us to give back to our
community.
You do not have to have Fire or EMS knowledge, be a bodybuilder, or
have loads of extra time. There is a place for everyone in the fire
department, and a job for everyone.
Many departments provide training opportunities that can help you to
develop a fire career, and help you to get a taste of what
firefighting is all about. Departments also provide for a family
atmosphere, and a way to socialize with your community. Members
often call fellow members their family, as that is how close we
become.
So how do you join? The first step is to find out which volunteer
fire department serves your community. Your best bet is to try to
contact them directly either through someone you know, or just by
stopping by. Departments welcome their community stopping by, and
would be happy to tell you their requirements and how to apply.
